For over a decade, we’ve teamed up with my brother Zack to create our famous two-sided holiday cards.
The front? Our “polished” side, where we clean up (or shove the mess out of frame) and pretend we’ve got it together.
The back? Pure chaos, complete with hidden Easter eggs that capture the highs, lows, and hilarity of the year. It’s our playful spin on the holiday update letters... but with more props and less dignity.
This year brought new adventures and surprises for all of us.
Fei became an AYSO referee, volunteered as DEI Chair and Secretary for the PTA, and tackled a unique job with the State's prison system. Andy shed 50 pounds, coached Magnus' AYSO team (Cyan Skullz), and continued honing his "skills". Magnus turned 8, unearthed his buried crate from when he was a baby, started wakeboarding, and dove into Dogman and Dragonball, all while charming us with his big heart. Atticus, now in kindergarten, leveled up in math, reading, and writing, became a Gundam-building pro, and rocked a Zelda EVA foam shield made by dad for Halloween. Together, the boys learned to ice skate, enjoyed The Fifth Element on the big screen, cruised the LA Auto Show, and jammed to Imagine Dragons at the Hollywood Bowl.
As for our holiday card, this year’s refined lighting setups made editing easier, though a few spills led the couch on an unplanned migration. Here's to an unforgettable 2024 and the adventures ahead in 2025!

Using Runway AI, Adobe Premier, and Udim we were able to create this fun video from the backside of our card.
Here is a little window into how we built this thing.
Here’s the chronological adventure of how these cards began and the journey that brought us to where we are today.
Here it is—the OG! The one that started it all. This photo was taken at the Summer Palace in China, right after our unforgettable wedding reception in Taipei. Fun fact: these costumes are actually just clever facades! The collars clip around your neck, and the sleeves are more for show than functionality. But honestly, they were worth every penny—if only to escape the bone-chilling Winter weather outside!
Our second holiday card took us on yet another adventure—this time to New York City! This trip was a bit of a redemption arc for Andy, who, early in our relationship, made the questionable decision to visit NYC with a friend… without inviting Fei. But don’t worry, he more than made up for it.
As you can see, Andy stepped up in heroic fashion, saving Fei from monsters, zombies, UFOs, and even that rogue meteor nobody seems to remember hitting Earth. In the end, Andy redeemed himself, rescuing his queen and ensuring his place in holiday card history.
Before Zack became our Resident Holiday Photographer (RHP), we were lucky enough to have our talented friend Manut capture this gem during a camping trip to Big Sur. In this rare moment, Manut managed to immortalize Andy in his natural habitat—mansplaining. Here, he’s passionately explaining that trees grow upward to maximize sunlight for photosynthesis, which, as he graciously put it, is "far too complex for you to fully grasp." Thanks, Andy. Thanks, Manut. Truly a team effort.
Apologies for the quality, this is a scan... but hey, maybe it's an improvement?
2014 was the year Zack officially stepped into his role as our Resident Holiday Photographer (RHP), and boy, did he deliver. The same can’t quite be said for the rest of us. Andy showed up with nothing but booze and that tragically overconfident pointed beard, while Fei rocked a faux fur shawl that looked more “roadkill chic” than runway-ready.
And let’s not even talk about the card layout. Who thought it was a good idea to pair a glittery gold taxidermied deer head with Zack’s stellar photography? We were young, bold, and full of questionable decisions. But, oh, how the mighty fall. A couple of years later, that pristine white couch and Andy’s beard were destined to have some serious words with reality.
Knowing our days of unchecked gluttony were numbered, we decided to embark on one last grand adventure to France and Amsterdam—a final indulgent hurrah before life flipped the script. Fei’s little bump was the sweetest sign of what was to come, a tiny canary in the coal mine hinting at the start of a whole new chapter.
For now, though, it was all about savoring every bite of chocolate, every flaky croissant, and every moment together as just Fandy. We knew the world was about to change in the best way possible, but we weren’t going down without one last glorious feast.
And so it begins—Magnus has arrived, the haircuts have stopped, and life as we knew it is officially over. You can tell we were still experimenting with Easter eggs (hidden props) in our shots, though the concept wasn’t quite fully baked yet. Fun fact: those little white shoes were Andy’s baby shoes, which we also hid in photos during our trip to Europe the previous year.
As for Magnus, he wasn’t too thrilled about me pretending to lose my mind—poor kid had no idea that Daddy is rarely serious. This was the start of a whole new era, and boy, were we in for a ride!
The actual card design.
Ok, so it only took us half a decade, but we’re finally starting to figure this whole holiday card thing out. Matching colors? Check. Toys scattered around to capture the chaos? Check. And Andy’s hair? Well, it’s out of the awkward stage… and straight into the “just odd” phase. Progress, right?
We also realized we’d have to bend a few rules to get the shots we wanted. Trying to explain to Magnus that “NO, we never, ever, ever ride bikes on the couch… except sometimes” was definitely a parenting milestone. It’s all coming together!
Well, things were looking pretty solid the previous year, but with this latest version, you can tell we’re starting to lose control again. The color matching? A little off. The Easter eggs? Sloppy at best. The overall vision? Let’s just say it’s “in development.”
And then, just when you think you’ve seen it all, there’s the latest Easter egg: an ultrasound. Yep, we’ve got another one on the way, and little Magnus is about to discover what it’s like to share the spotlight. Buckle up, sweetie—things are about to get even crazier!
And he’s landed! Welcome to the party, little Atticus! As it turns out, we’ve hit the jackpot with these boys—they’re absolutely amazing. Sure, the chaos is spreading, but we’re having a blast and loving every minute of it. Life is great!
It’s the end of 2019, and honestly, what could possibly go wrong?! Everything’s looking up, and the future feels brighter than ever. Cheers to the good times ahead!
Oh, and big news: Papa and Andy finally finished that rocking chair they started three years ago for Magnus. Just in time, too—better late than never, right?
Well, shit. This was a rough year. Everyone’s lives were turned upside down, and we faced challenges we never could’ve imagined. But on the bright side, we had our two boys to keep us entertained! With family, gallons of bleach, and a whole lot of patience, we made it through.
For the backside, we broke from tradition and went dark to reflect the tough times we’d weathered and the uncertainty still ahead.
Year two of quarantine was all about building new hobbies and skills. The boys dove into learning Chinese, piano, and math with Auntie Frances, while NanaPapa kept the reading and math train rolling. Andy, naturally, found a few very expensive hobbies to keep himself entertained, and Fei—true to form—was the glue that kept us all sane.
Now we’re cooking with gas! The boys are growing up fast, and their hobbies prove it. This year was all about RC cars, skateboarding, swimming, soccer, and learning Chinese.
Magnus, now 6.5, lost a bunch of teeth, scored his first soccer goal, and continues to wow us with his piano skills. Atticus, now 3.5yo, discovered a love for drawing, perfected the art of terrorizing his brother, and his vocabulary absolutely exploded.
Fei kept busy with piano lessons, digging into gardening (literally), and looking after her three boys. As for Andy? Well, he was just doing his best.
After a couple of years of trying to wrangle the boys into a single “lucky” shot, Zack had the genius idea to let them do their own thing and go wild! We'd just stitch them together in Photoshop later. The boys clearly loved it, and the results were fantastic.
This also sparked another brilliant innovation: staging the Easter Egg items after the photoshoot. No more scrambling to reset props after every jump—game changer!
